Career Coach
Gofman Therapy and Consulting • Westport, CT • Independent Contractor
About the Practice
Gofman Therapy and Consulting is a specialty practice based in Westport, Connecticut, focused on evidence-based mental health treatment for OCD, anxiety, eating disorders, and chronic pain. We work with adolescents, young adults, and professionals who are serious about getting better.
In addition to our clinical services, we offer specialized career coaching for young adults navigating non-linear career paths.
The Opportunity
This is an independent contractor position for a Career Coach with a clear pathway to a full-time role for the right fit. You will work with young adults and recent graduates navigating career transitions, professional identity questions, job searches, and early-career development. The work is coaching — not therapy — but it benefits enormously from a clinically informed lens.
This role is in-person at our Westport, CT office. Some clients may be engaged in therapy concurrently — either within the practice or with outside providers — and comfort working as part of an integrated team matters.
What You’ll Do
Provide individual career coaching to young adults and recent graduates, focused on career exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and professional development
Help clients identify strengths, values, and career direction using structured frameworks and your own clinical or coaching expertise
Support clients through concrete job search tasks: resume review, interview preparation, networking strategy, and offer evaluation
Hold the emotional texture of career uncertainty with skill — many clients are navigating anxiety, perfectionism, or self-doubt alongside their practical questions
Collaborate with the broader practice team where clients are concurrently in therapy, maintaining clear and appropriate scope boundaries
Participate in regular team consultation and contribute to the ongoing development of our coaching model
What We’re Looking For
Clinical background strongly preferred — LPC, LCSW, LMFT, psychologist, or equivalent; candidates with a master’s in counseling or a related field who have made a deliberate move toward career coaching will be considered
Alternatively: formal training or substantial experience in career counseling, vocational guidance, or professional coaching (ICF credential or equivalent a plus)
Genuine enthusiasm for working with young adults — the uncertainty, the ambition, and the self-discovery that characterize this stage of life
Ability to hold the practical and emotional dimensions of career work simultaneously, without drifting into therapy
Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication, and the ability to challenge clients constructively
• Comfort working in a small, growing practice where the model is still being shaped
Compensation & Structure
This is an independent contractor arrangement. Compensation is structured as a percentage split of session fees — specific terms will be discussed during the interview process. This position offers a genuine pathway to a full-time employed role as the practice grows and the fit is established.
Why Join Us
Meaningful work with a high-growth population — young adults at genuine inflection points are some of the most rewarding clients to work with
Clinically grounded environment — you will be part of a team that takes the psychological dimensions of coaching seriously
Autonomy within a clear framework — you will have room to bring your own style and expertise within a well-developed coaching model
Sustainable pace — this is not a high-volume, transactional practice; we prioritize depth and fit
Private pay model — no insurance, no administrative overhead; you focus on the client
